Claudia rosti

"After completing my BFA in painting at SUNY New Paltz, I relocated from the Hudson Valley, NY, to Thomaston, Mid-Coast Maine. I am continuing my love of landscape painting to include the beauty of Maine and the north Atlantic coast.

My current project is to paint the seasons of Maine. Whether it be my front yard after a snowstorm, the fog rising over a river, or scenes of the St. Georges River, I try to portray moments of God's artistry caught by my own photography, as I travel and hike this incredible state."

FULL BIO

Born in NYC, Claudia grew up in Brewster, NY, and was raised in the creative environment of her artistic parents. With access to her parents art studio, guidance, and teaching, she gained a strong foundation in creativity. Claudia assisted her parents with their creations of ceramics, enamels, drawing, painting, and commercial installations of glasswork, woodwork, metal sculptures, and fiber fabrications.

Claudia attended the Visual Arts program at Towson University (Towson, MD), the Florence School of Weaving (Florence, MA), and the RN nursing program at Pace University (Pleasantville, NY). After spending 35 years working as a registered nurse, she finally retired, refocused on her creative energies, and returned to her primary love of art.

In 2020, Claudia completed her BFA in Painting at the School of Fine and Performing Arts at the State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz. Her teachers include: Tom Sarrantonio, Amy Cheng, Kathy Goodell, and Andrew Woolright. During her time at SUNY New Paltz, she was awarded two scholarships: the Dr. Edwin A Ulrich Fine Arts Memorial Scholarship and the National PEO Educational Scholarship.

Having achieved Dean's list all semesters, Claudia was one of the select few SUNY New Paltz students who were recognized for academic excellence as a Spring 2020 graduate. Each semester, faculty and staff identify students who are exceptionally skilled, insightful, hardworking, and engaged in campus life. The College honors these students with a special designation, recognizing them as best of their graduating class. This is just one of Claudia's many academic achievements.

Claudia's BFA Thesis work, which focused on environmental issues, was exhibited at the Woodstock Art Association Museum (WAAM) in Woodstock, NY in August 2020. (The Dorsky Museum was closed due to COVID.) While in college, Claudia exhibited at the SUNY New Paltz Student Art Exhibitions in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and won placement in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 University President's Residence Exhibition. In 2019, her sand sculpture was exhibited in the Duke Art Exhibition at the Roadway Inn in New Paltz, NY. Claudia was also the primary exhibitor at the Rhinebeck Reformed Church 2019 Art Exhibition in Rhinebeck, NY.

Since relocating from New York to Mid-Coast Maine in 2020, Claudia has exhibited at the Thomas Moser Furniture Gallery in Freeport, ME and the Flipside Cafe/Gallery in Thomaston, ME. Claudia opened her own studio, Sunrise Art Studio, in her home in Thomaston, ME, where she is teaching oil painting classes in small, private groups.
